At Silverstone the Dallara with Joao Barbosa, Martin Short, and Vanina Ickx came third, after two podiums at Spa and Monza.
At Le Mans, Joao Barbosa was flying in the Judd engined Dallara made a fantastic start from 12th on the grid, and got the car upto 4th place in the first stint. Martin then took over, and as an Audi and a Pescarolo made mistakes, he was up into 2nd overall, and briefly as an Audi pitted, he lead the race! Unfortunately a power steering problem, put us out of contention with the Audis, but we finished the 24 hour event - an achievement for any team, and the French awarded the Rollcentre Team, the title of "Most Resilient Team".
A rather tall engineer, and a "petite" lady driver (Vanina), waiting to get into the Dallara at Spa.
At Spa 1000kms race, Martin Short was joined by Rob Barff and Vanina Ickx (daughter of the legendary Jackie Ickx who won the Spa race five times, as well as Le Mans six times !), and they finished a very creditable third overall.
At Thruxton in our Noble, we gained pole, lead both races, and took fastest lap.
At Silverstone Daily Sportscar said "for lap after lap (in damp conditions) Martin Short in the Noble was the fastest car on the track - quicker even than Greensall in the lead GT car ! "
Le Mans 2004 (Dallara)
After Rollcentre's excellent showing at Sebring (see below), the Dallara went to Le Mans. Fantastic for Martin and his team, who have worked so hard to realise their ultimate ambition - their own car on the Le Mans grid. TVR had two cars there, and Morgan had an entry- all three cars finished. The Dallara ran as high as fourth overall, before being pushed off by Sebastian Bourdais.
At Le Mans....... car No 6 the Blue and White X-Markets sponsored Martin Short Dallara, with the Mole Valley green top to it !, was in fifth place when it had a big accident. Motoring News said " The Rollcentre Team encapsulated everything that Le Mans should be about. A true privateer...it is David-and-Goliath stuff...the impression they made, not only on their rivals, the officials and the fans was one which will last"
In Autosport....on Martin Short "He may not be Tom Kristensen, but it's efforts like Short's that make Le Mans special....the British have always loved the underdog...dont forget how small this team is."
For 2005
Rollcentre Racing were at Sebring and Spa with the new Nissan engine in one of the Dallaras. The other big change is a swop from Dunlop to Michelin tyres.
Success at the Sebring 12 hours 2004
At their first outing at Sebring, Martin Short, Rob Barff and Joao Barbosa had a fantastic weekend. At one stage the X-markets backed Dallara ran as high as third place overall, and the Rollcentre Team showed that they can compete in this highly competitive arena. They finished fifth overall, and fourth in class, only being beaten by the three semi-works Audi R8s, and leaving such racing car stalwarts as James Weaver and Andy Wallace in the MGs and the new Riley-Scotts trailing.
At one stage the board read "1st McNish, 2nd J.J Lehto , 3rd Barff , 4th Herbert"..three ex Formula One Drivers, and Rob !
Tom Kyos of the Race Cafe said "It was pretty universal here, that the Rollcentre Team was the 'story of the event' or at least the 'feel good story of the event'...moving into third, and stubbornly staying there, hour after hour...bloody good shot...Chris East needs acknowledging as the man with the say-so to make this project happen.
